corporateBody

Scope Note: An organization or group of persons that is identified by a particular name and that acts, or may act, as an entity. Has a recognized legal or social status. Similar to CIDOC-CRM E40 (Legal Body), PROV-O Organization class, and Organization Ontology Organization class.

family

Scope Note: Two or more persons related by birth, or through marriage, adoption, civil union, or other social conventions that bind them together as a socially recognized familial group.

function

Scope Note: Function, activity, role, or purpose performed by an agent.

group

Scope Note: Two or more agents that act together as an agent. Traditionally, corporate bodies and families are recognized kinds of groups, but it may be useful, within some contexts, to define additional kinds of groups. For example an “electorate”, i.e. all of the voters in a given election, or other identifiable collective movements that are not formally corporate bodies, but that do perform activities governed by shared values or commitments.

instantiation

Scope Note: A specific persistent and recoverable form (analog or digital), in which the information content of a record, record part, or record set is communicated through time and space.

mechanism

Scope Note: A process, machine or system that performs an activity, e.g. a database, style sheet, or other system. May have both mechanical and software components or may be exclusively software.

person

Scope Note: An individual human being. Most commonly, a human being (biological person) has a single socially constructed identity or persona. Less common though not rare, one or more personae in addition to the original persona may be associated with the human being over the course of their lifetime. Less common is when two or more persons collaborate to create a shared persona, constituting a kind of group.

place

Scope Note: Place or jurisdiction, including places where the records being described were created or have some other significant connection.

position

Scope Note: Representing the intersection of person and group, a position or role is held by one or more individual persons in the context of a group and is as such recognized as a specific kind of agent. Position exists independently of the person or persons that hold it. Examples include elected positions, e.g. President, Prime Minister, Chancellor, State Secretary, Pope, etc.

record

Scope Note: Discrete information content formed by an agent and available in at least one persistent physical (analog or digital) form.

recordPart

Scope Note: Component of a record with independent information content that contributes to the intellectual completeness of the record.

recordSet

Scope Note: One or more records that are grouped together by an agent based on the records sharing one or more attributes or relations.

resource

Scope Note: Any type of archival, bibliographic or other resource.
